How Happy We Will Be

Our Story

I wrote this lullaby at bedtime, for my boys, Conor and Quinn.

It was usually me who went in at night. Their mama's heart couldn't take the crying, so I went in to sing them the rest of the way to sleep.

The song grew the way they did. When I felt them humming against my shoulder, that became a verse. When I wanted them to learn, the alphabet found its way in. And when I pictured them drifting off, I imagined an island where sweet dreams floated everywhere, and so the dreamy sea was born.

Every night the song got a little longer, until one day it was this book.
